Many apologies for being MIA...again - but the day-to-day hustle of life is sucking me dry. Oh well, after this month I will be living it up for the remainder of the year.
In other news...two weeks ago, I finished up my OBGYN Sub-I. I spent the first two weeks on benign gynecological surgery - i.e. hysterectomies, D&Cs, ablations, etc. The second half of the month was spent on the labor and delivery floor. The hours on L&D were the longest I have ever worked. Depending on how many patients I had to round on, I would get to the hospital between 5 or 6AM and the day would end around 6:30PM. During the month, I also took some overnight call which means that after working the day-shift (either on gyn or L&D), I would stay at the hospital until the next team came at 8 in the morning. It was exhausting but at the same time IT. WAS. SO. MUCH. FUN!!!! It was a sobering reminder that intern year will challenge and stretch me in many ways, but it is also so great because I am going to love what I am doing and I know the hubby and I [and God] are well-equipped to get our family through it intact ;-)
Now I am on week two of Emergency Medicine - my final required clerkship of fourth year :happy dance:. I was assigned to a smaller community IU hospital, and I am the only medical student working there, so I get first dibbs on all the interesting patients which is cool. So far, I have been working quite a few night shifts - ex: 5PM-2AM, 10PM-6AM. I thought it would be a great setup for living my double-mom life during the day, but it is kind of draining. After keeping baby girl home with me during the day, instead of taking her to daycare, I end up coming home feeling like the walking dead.
